Sugoi-con 2007

26 November, 2007 by ngsilver
What better way to begin our third year and close out our 2007 calendar year then by breaking in a new editor? Sugoi-con saw Samurai Jake's entrance into the AMV Wars ranks. His challenger, Raven, couldn't have made the battle more difficult.
We began Sugoi-con with our pre-game panel. Those who attended learned what we are and got to see the road leading to Sugoi's battle.

Considering the fact that Raven has never won a battle he took part in, The Chairman decided to let him take a stab at the noob. Considering his track record, Raven should have been an easy enough target for Samurai Jake's first time.
The Chairman also allowed Raven to choose the terms on which he would battle. Raven came up with a time release format for source and chose two of the sources. Our Chairman came up with the secret ingredient and devised how the time release would work. Every 30 mins the editors were allowed to begin using 1 source. However, on the fly, the chairman also mixed things up by limiting the editors to only 1:30 worth of editing time.
Their sources were, Gunbuster, Slayers, and Sailor Moon. Their theme was, "7 Deadly Sins."
Samurai Jake took a traditional spin on the theme and came up with a video that adhered to the theme extremely well, but was perhaps too long. Raven on the other hand, despite the technical difficulties decided to forgo the actual theme and came up with his own idea. Needless to say, despite the reaction Raven's video received, the judges voted nearly unanimously that Samurai Jake's video was the best.

Thank you to everyone who attended and enjoyed the free candy and swag. We hope to see you all next year for another exciting battle!
