After you have opened or created your
project the project window will open up. It looks something like this:
Just so you know, since I edit on a dual monitor system
my premier looks a little different then what yours would. All of the
extra windows such as transitions and effects and things like that I
keep on my 2nd monitor as to not clog up my workspace. However, if you
only have one monitor you cannot do this so do not fret, everything you
see in the 2nd picture is still there, it's just all on the right side
in tabs.
The following are the items numbered and what they do:
1) This is the bin. This is where every image,
audio file, and video file that you will use in the video is stored. In
order to add items to the bin simply right click in the empty space and
in the menu choose import. Select the files you want and they will be
added. You can create multiple bins for different items as well, which
can help you stay organized for videos that have lots of footage.
2) This is the video preview pane. This is where you can view your
work as you are editing. It will show you exactly what you have been
working on as long as it has been processed via the preview feature
(hitting enter while the timeline is selected)
3) This is the timeline. This is where the majority of your
time will be spent. You can move the razor (point of preview) frame by
frame, insert multiple video and audio clips on the many tracks. You can
even create more tracks then what is there by default by right clicking
on the timeline and selecting add track. Just remember, the higher
number track is always shown on top, and transitions only work between
tracks 1 A and 1 B.
4) This is the navigator. It shows you what portion of the video
you are looking at and can be used as a great reference and quick
navigation item. By clicking on it you can move the area you are looking
at on the timeline.
However, remember that you have to move the razor to
that point (left clicking on the time in the timeline) before it will
show up in the preview window.
5) This is the transition window. All transitions are stored here.
In order to use a transition simply drag and drop it on the transition
track. You can then right click the transition on the timeline to alter
it's settings.
6) This is the video effect window. All effects that can be added
to a clip can be seen here. Simply drag and drop on top of a video clip
to add the effect. You can then alter the effect's settings through the
effects window.
7) This is the effects window. This will show all the effects that are
on a clip. You can alter the effects settings here.
8) This is the history window. This will show you a detailed history of
what you have done up to the point you specified in the settings. If you
make a change and want to revert back to a previous state this window
will show you all the steps made to get to your current point and by
clicking on previous points you will go back steps.
Now that you know the main functions of the
editor start your editing. First add your audio source (preferably wav
since mp3's tend to not process correctly) and video source (preferably
not a direct xvid or divx file since they do not tend to process
correctly).
